PubWeb FAQ

How does ‘My Books’ work?

Each product record on the Nielsen Book Bibliographic database contains fields holding publisher and imprint information and another which indicates the main UK distributor for that title. ‘My Books’ checks that the publisher details match those in your PubWeb login/registration details. Matched titles will appear under ‘My Books’. Where the publisher and UK distributor details match your login details you will be able to edit them. (This additional requirement is to accommodate ISBN prefixes that are shared by more than one publisher.) If a record is found under ‘My Books’ but is not linked to your distributor, an ‘I want to edit this record’ button will be available. Click this to send the details to us. If you have recently changed distributor or added a new prefix to your lists, please advise us of this in your submission.

What if I can’t find a title when I search by ISBN?

If you cannot retrieve the record you expected to view, please click the ‘add record’ button at the bottom of the search page and search for the ISBN.

You will be advised either:

‘Your book has been found... Show book details’. Click the button and the book details will display the "I want to edit this record" button.

Or ‘Your book has not been found... Add this book’. Click the button and complete the new record template provided.

How long will my data take to appear?

Data changes you submit are applied to the central Nielsen BookData Editorial database by our editorial department and these changes would then be reflected in the next available data products we supply to external website customers, our range of CD-ROMs and online services, and PubWeb itself.

Changes made by Subscribing Publishers will normally be applied to the Editorial database within 24 hours and available to view on PubWeb again within 3 working days.

Changes made by Non-subscribing publishers may take up to 2 weeks to be applied to the database.

How do I upload jacket images?

From the title display screen click the ‘Add Jacket’ button or go to the edit page of that book, and click the ‘Add Jacket’ button. Follow the instructions displayed. It is also possible to include the Jacket Image when submitting a new title through the edit page. Images are normally processed within 3 working days. Please contact us if your new image has failed to appear after 7 working days.

What format should I send them in?

jpg. format is preferred since most of our customers use this format. Full instructions appear on the jacket upload page of PubWeb.

How can I send Price & Availability data through PubWeb?

By clicking the link on the edit record or core data notes screen you can e-mail us this information, but it cannot currently go directly through the site. This is for two reasons. Price information sent online may conflict with current daily price feeds we receive from other sources (eg. your distributor) and needs to be checked. We also need to validate ownership of a title before its availability can be changed. This is necessary because, for example, a publisher may sell a part of a list to another publisher. The first publisher then might log on to PubWeb to mark them all "Out of Print" simply because they are not part of his list anymore. Be assured that P&A e-mails that arrive from PubWeb users get priority.

Before I joined Pubweb I sent some data in by post/e-mail/new title form and these ISBNs are not showing, should I send them again using Pubweb?

Your data will still be working its way through our system. It may take up to 6 weeks for initial records to be added to the database if you are not a subscribing publisher. Initial Subscriber record(s) are always added within 2 weeks and normally within 1 week.

I have never sent you jackets before and I have many to send; must I send each one individually?

No, you can send us the images on a disk, CD or email. Please ensure that all files are named with the book’s ISBN followed by the file extension, eg 9780123456789.jpg
